What Are The Types of Tooth Abscesses?
- Periodontal abscess – This is an abscess on the gum next to the tooth’s root.
- Periapical abscess – This is an abscess at the tip of a tooth’s root.

What Are the Symptoms of an Abscessed tooth?
- Pain that gets worse when you lie down
- Throbbing facial pain or redness that gets worse over time
- Pain that radiates down your neck or jaw
- Swollen and red gums

- Discolored or loose teeth
- Bad Breath or bad taste in the mouth

How Is an Abscess Treated?

Draining the Abscess
To drain the abscess, we cut into the area and drain the pus. Our staff will clean the area with a saline solution to ensure there is no infection.
Root Canal
If the pulp of the root is infected, a root canal may be needed. This involves draining the abscess and removing the infected pulp. If needed a crown may be used to help keep the tooth in stable condition.
Tooth Extraction
If you tooth can not be saved and is too damaged, we may have to remove the tooth. The abscess will be drained once the tooth is pulled.
